ABOUT

How Joanna's Gelato Began

When I think of ice cream I always picture the times as a child when my dad would treat me to an ice cream during a family day out. I also think of the times I've tasted incredible gelato in Italy and on holidays in this country.

To me ice cream brings back happy memories and I hope I can create many happy memories for my customers.

Ice Cream

Having enjoyed baking since my mum taught me as a child, combined with having a sweet tooth,

I have always loved homemade desserts, especially those with ice cream.

For a long time I dreamt of opening my own café selling my homemade cakes, but when the opportunity arose to purchase the ice cream van that has been trading on Salisbury Market for years, it seemed the ideal opportunity to combine my love of

cake and ice cream and share this love with others.

Selling my homemade cakes at Salisbury's first Teenage Market in 2014 inspired me to set up Bee Friendly Bakes

after graduating from university, when I realised the corporate life was not for me.

All orders can be collected from Joanna's Gelato van at Salisbury Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays (March to October),

or from my home in Wylye, Wiltshire.

Alternatively, local delivery may be possible (subject to availability and a small fee to cover time and fuel costs).

HERITAGE

Paniccia & Sons Italian Ice Cream

There has been an ice cream van on Salisbury Market from as early as 1926. Originally made by Mr Albino Paniccia, and later his son Anthony, Pannicia & Sons came to Salisbury Market until 1991. Their Italian ice cream was regarded amongst locals as “the cheapest and the best”, with their red and green van always attracting long queues.

When the business was taken over by Andy Taylor, it was important to him to keep the distinctive red and green vans, as part of their heritage.

Now I am excited to be selling gelato (Italian ice cream), keeping the Italian heritage alive.
